We proudly announce the first annual report for our paediatric HIV programme. This edition highlights efforts to combat paediatric HIV, challenges, and achievements and it provides an overview of the impressive results and progress made by Aidsfonds and community partners in 2024.
New and better ways to address gaps
Did you know that in 2024 more than 11,500 children were supported to stay on HIV treatment and 7,706 caregivers were capacitated to take care of their children living with HIV? New and better ways are identified to address gaps within paediatric HIV responses and to find children living with HIV. Aidsfonds partners piloted new approaches and explored closer cooperation with traditional birth attendants in Nigeria, Malawi and Tanzania and collaboration with schools and children’s clubs in other countries. In South Africa, Zoë-Life equips grandparents to support orphans and children living with HIV who are underserved as 640.000 children have lost parents due to AIDS.
Improved access and less drop-outs
In several countries, Aidsfonds paediatric partners’ connected to national find-the-child campaigns, regional and global fora and initiatives. Advocacy efforts have resulted in new political commitments to improve paediatric HIV services, increased funding for paediatric HIV and revised policies that support children living with HIV. For example in Malawi where evidence based advocacy resulted into the opening of an additional ART site at one of the health facilities. This improved access to HIV treatment services for children and resulted in less children dropping out of HIV care.
All results, best practices and advocacy efforts can be found in the annual report 2024.
