Aidsfonds has been designated as “undesirable” by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office. This designation means that Aidsfonds is now compelled to immediately halt its support for communities in Russia that are at high risk of HIV. All existing contracts with Russian partners have had to be terminated immediately.

Aidsfonds made the decision to cease its operations in order to protect its local partners: Russian organisations are prohibited from having any connection with entities labelled as “undesirable”. Aidsfonds deeply regrets this decision. By branding Aidsfonds as “undesirable”, the Russian authorities are effectively obstructing programmes that provide HIV testing, treatment, and preventive care.

This decision is part of the systematic suppression of Russian civil society and independent media, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for them to secure funding and carry out their work.
