Aidsfonds is back at ICASA, the largest AIDS conference in Africa where innovation, community and political leadership take charge to create an AIDS-free Africa. Besides organising events that bring people together on topics, such as digital health and paediatric treatment, we support and bring together our in-country and regional partners and cheer them on as they present project successes.
Power the Shift! The Road to Community Leadership
It’s everywhere: shift the power. But in reality, communities still have limited access to resources and are only being brought to the table when invited. Only 2% of funding for HIV programmes targets key populations.
How do we truly walk the talk? How can communities drive policies and programming? A true power shift to communities is crucial to end AIDS by 2030 and to protect everyone’s rights along the way.
At ICASA2023, we are showing what the road to community leadership looks like. Visit our booth!

New UNAIDS report: Key populations continue to be neglected in most HIV programmes
New UNAIDS report: Key populations continue to be neglected in most HIV programmes
Figures from the new UNAIDS report ‘The Urgency of Now – AIDS at a Crossroads’, published prior to the 25th International AIDS Conference taking place in Germany this week, show that the AIDS response is making little progress globally. For the first time in the history of the HIV pandemic, more new infections are occurring outside sub-Saharan Africa than within. Three regions are experiencing rising numbers of new HIV infections: Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa. People from key populations and their sex partners continue to be neglected in most HIV programmes.
