Global Monitoring of CEDAW Concluding Observations Relating to Sex Work

As part of the Love Alliance’s commitment to supporting sex worker-led advocacy, partners engaged with the CEDAW process through shadow report submissions and the use of a dedicated monitoring tool. NSWP launched the Global Monitoring of CEDAW Concluding Observations Relating to Sex Work case study, which highlights the impact of sex worker participation in international human rights mechanisms. The findings show that in 15 out of 33 countries, at least three rights-affirming recommendations were issued following review sessions that included sex worker-led shadow reports. These recommendations addressed anti-violence measures, anti-discrimination, access to healthcare, and the removal of punitive laws—demonstrating the power of coordinated advocacy and the importance of centering sex workers’ voices in global policy spaces.
