The Aidsfonds Hands Off 2 programme has launched a fact sheet detailing the link between Sex Work, HIV and violence.
Violence and HIV are connected to each other. For women and transgender sex workers, evidence shows increased vulnerability to HIV as a result of violence. The struggles that often come with economic and social power dynamics subjects marginalised persons to situations where they are unable to make safe and healthy choices. This is due to stigma and discrimination, especially for population groups such as sex workers. Violence can prevent a person from testing, revealing their status and/or seeking treatment care and support.
