Successful lobby in Indonesia cuts HIV medicine price in half

Through collaborative efforts and successful lobby, our partner Indonesia AIDS Coalition (IAC) was able to help cut the price of ARV TLE (Antiretroviral medicins) from US$28 down to $15 in Indonesia. With nationally 48,981 people living with HIV currently on TLE treatment, the price cut will save the Indonesian government an estimated $ 8 million.

Needed action

Indonesia counts 640.000 people living with HIV. Although the number of new infections decreased by 27% since 2010, the number of AIDS-related deaths grew by 60% since that year. This disastrous high number of fatalities is partly due to lack of treatment accessibility and high medical costs. IAC successfully lobbying for lower ARV TLE prices, leaves more funding for getting all people living with HIV on treatment.
