PITCH is at the Harm Reduction International Conference

PITCH partners are attending the 26th Harm Reduction International Conference in Porto 28 April-1 May in full force. Held every two years, it is the only global conference of its kind to bring together governments, researchers, civil society and people who use drugs, to share best practice and discuss harm reduction approaches.

PITCH is hosting three events at the conference: a pre-conference event jointly organised with the Parliamentarians Network to end HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and Tuberculosis (UNITE), a PITCH workshop about removing structural barriers to effective harm reduction, and a workshop about using the Universal Periodic Review to promote the rights of people who use drugs (see roadmap for full details).

Many PITCH country partners are attending the conference together with law enforcement and public health officials from their respective government. HR19 is an opportunity for these officials to learn about alternative approaches to punitive approaches to drug use, and to explore, with PITCH partners, barriers and opportunities to reforming drug policies and provide harm reduction services.

PITCH participants to the conference are encouraged to share news, learning and reflections with the wider partnership (and the world!) through social media. This social media toolkit provides some suggested content, hashtags and twitter handles for those who’d like to join in.
