OPSI Indonesia joins the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund

We congratulate Liana Andriyani, National coordinator of sex worker-led network OPSI in Indonesia, with her appointment as member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund. It is the first time a sex worker representative in Indonesia is part of this body that submits funding applications to the Global Fund on behalf of the entire country. Now more than ever this is needed as the situation for key populations has worsened in the previous months. In April Indonesia will have general elections. Often, key populations are used as scape goats during elections to favor votes and win popularity. Already last year the situation worsened with sex workers being arrested, brothels closing and transgender people publically harassed and violated. These events showcase the importance of the work that OPSI is doing, providing access to rights-based HIV services for sex workers.
