OHCHR looking for regional and sub-regional strategies and best practices to HIV epidemic
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will organise a consultation (12 -13 February 2019) to identify regional and sub-regional strategies and best practices to respond to the HIV epidemic and to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of persons living with or affected by HIV. The outcome of the consultation will be presented at the Human Rights Council at its 41st session (24 June-12 July 2019).
“This is a very good opportunity for PITCH and the HIV movement to continue advocating for the rights of key populations by informing global debates and ensuring HIV is high on the human rights agenda. PITCH will actively engage in the consultation and is already preparing its advocacy strategy and asks for member states,” says David Ruiz Villefranca, PITCH Representative in Geneva.
In July 2018, the Human Rights Council passed the Resolution on Human Rights in the context of HIV and AIDS (A/HRC/38/L.12). The Resolution was approved by consensus but lacked strong language on many of the pertinent topics, such as issues around key populations.
