Nominate your champion for sex workers' rights #MyChamp

We are looking for the brave ones who stand up for the rights of sex workers and therefore deserve to be put in the spotlight. Join the #MyChamp campaign today and nominate your true champion for sex workers’ rights!

Shedding light on incredible stories

In most countries, sex workers are being criminalised. They are being stigmatised for the work that they do. As a result, sex work is risky and sex workers are faced with much violence. Many people in society, including their own politicians, fail them.

But luckily… there are also those who stand tall to protect sex workers’ rights. Namely, champions of change who, against all odds, strive for human rights and harmful laws to be changed. We want to find and rain praise on these amazing people! By shedding light on their incredible stories, we aim to encourage everyone to stand up for sex workers’ rights. Because human rights are for all.

How to nominate your champion

Do you know someone who is a true ally and who you think is a real hero for sex workers’ rights? Such as, the health care professional who created a sex worker friendly clinic, the officer who challenged misconducts by police colleagues, the religious leader who warmly welcomes sex workers in the faith community, or the bold decision maker who is committed to actively create policy change? Anyone who deserves to be in the spotlight for standing up for sex worker rights!

You can nominate this person by filling this form

Requirements for nominations:

  • The nominee must be active in one of the Hands Off programme countries: Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe
  • To be active in breaking down societal barriers to sex workers’ human rights
  • To be an ally but not part of the sex work community
  • To be willing to have their story and achievements published online, if selected

Make sure to submit your nomination no later than Wednesday 11 May 2022 (this is an extended deadline). After this date a committee consisting of Aidsfonds and representatives from the Hands Off sex worker-led partners will review all nominee submissions and will select five finalists. We will have interviews with these finalists focusing on their valuable efforts and drive, to be published on the online channels of Aidsfonds. Through online voting the ultimate champion for sex workers’ rights will be announced in the course of this year.

Win a professional photoshoot!

Are you the one who has nominated one of the five winning champions for sex workers’ rights? Then you will win a series of three (portrait) pictures taken by a professional photographer.
