New UNAIDS report 'Power to the people'

On 26 November 2019, in the running towards World AIDS DAY, UNAIDS published their new report 'Power to the people'. "When people and communities have power and agency, change happens," said Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS.

UNAIDS World AIDS Day 2019

Earlier this month, UNAIDS announced its theme for 2019 World AIDS Day 'Communities make the difference'.

"Communities are making the difference and are key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, but far too often are lacking the resources and recognition they deserve and need. To recognise the role played by communities and community-led organisations, UNAIDS and its partners are highlighting the role of communities this World AIDS Day."  UNAIDS

At Aidsfonds, we applaud this approach. Our work is geared towards ending AIDS by investing in communities. Together with our local and regional partners, we work on creating community-led approaches that truly benefit key populations. These marginalised groups include children, women, sex workers, LGBT, people living with HIV, people who use drugs, and young people.

UNAIDS' report published on 26 November 2019 'Power to the people',  argues that power rests in the hands of the people, as can be seen in countless local, national and international movements to redistribute power and bring greater attention to neglected issues. The report updates the number of people on treatment which since the summer of 2019 increased to 24.5 million. uses cookies to offer the best website experience possible and to anonymously analyze website behaviour.
