The sex work team at Aidsfonds has a long history of implementing projects, both in the Netherlands and internationally. The team is specialized in supporting sex worker self-led organisations and service providers (law enforcement and health providers) to fulfil the rights of sex workers and respond to their needs in the field of HIV/AIDS and STIs. As a result, we have a successful track record in international work with and for sex workers. Currently, we implement three main international programmes: Bridging the Gaps (focussing on human rights and access to health for sex workers), PITCH ‘Partnership to Inspire, Transform and Connect the HIV response’ (focussing on lobby and advocacy for sex workers’ rights) and Hands Off! (focussing on reducing violence against sex workers in the Southern African region).

For the PITCH programme we are – with immediate effect – looking for an enthusiastic new colleague who will support the implementation of the PITCH work plan. Among others tasks, the programme officer will be responsible for the implementation at country level in 2-3 countries.

Programme officer Sex Work programme ‘PITCH’

(32 hours per week)

Main Tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the sexwork team as needed regarding the implementation of the PITCH programme in 4 countries and represent Aidsfonds in 1 or 2 country teams. This includes coordination of partner implementation, finance, WANDA (M&E system) and supporting partners to access flex funds
  • Together with the policy officer coordinate the roll out of the learnings of the Advocacy Convening (an advocacy training) with PITCH partners
  • Facilitate the coordination of sex work PITCH activities at conferences, such as ICASA and CFCS
  • Provide support for the implementation of the overall PITCH programme, as needed. This may include participating in strategic meetings with alliance partners and supporting the regional PITCH programme in Southern Africa on behalf of the sex work team


Your salary will be between € 2.594 and € 4.192 gross per month (based on 36 hours). The position is for one year, with a possible extension of one additional year, if funding is available.

Experience and competences

  • A flexible and optimistic organisational talent, who is creative and results oriented
  • Relevant University degree (social science, politics, public health or communications)
  • Affinity and/or relevant experience in HIV related lobby and advocacy with and for key populations. Previous experience in working with sex worker-led networks is an asset
  • Excellent and culturally sensitive team worker, who can facilitate collaboration amongst a variety of stakeholders. Experience in working closely with international partners is an asset.
  • Fluency in English and basic knowledge of the Dutch language; knowledge of languages in partner countries (Bahasa, Vietnamese, Burmese and Russian) is an asset
  • Readiness to travel (4 to 5 times per year)
