Call for researchers on community-led innovations in HIV/AIDS response
Aidsfonds is seeking research consultants to design and conduct research about key populations-led innovations in the HIV/AIDS response. We are looking for a one-of-a-kind consultant or research institute. One that brings creativity, flexibility and has a good understanding of the context of key populations.
Research objectives
Every problem is an opportunity for design. By framing the challenges as a How Might We question, we are providing space for innovative solutions to be found.
- How might we better support innovation with, for and by communities to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030?

- What does innovation mean for communities? For funders?
- What are the best practices of community innovations?
- What value would it have if global and regional funders and grant-makers would more effectively work together on community innovations?
- What are realistic and practical recommendations to funders, grant-makers and grantees to more effectively incubate and scale community-led innovations?
How might we increase appetite among global HIV funders, including new type of investors, to fund community-led innovations
- Why are funders investing so little in community-led organisations/innovations?
- What are the organisational challenges funders experience in funding community innovations?
- What are the external challenges funders experience in funding community innovations?
- What value would it bring to funders to invest in community innovations?
- What are realistic and practical recommendations to / opportunities for funders, grant-makers and grantees to increase funding for community innovations?

This research is being co-commissioned by a global alliance of HIV/AIDS investors, grant-makers, advocates and community-led organisations. The alliance consist of UHAI EASHRI, South-African Network of People who use drugs (SANPUD), Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP), Gay and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ), Initiative Sankofa d’Afrique de l’ Quest (ISDAO), Arab Foundation for Freedom and Equality (AFE), National sex workers movement South-Africa (Sisonke), Aidsfonds, Frontline Aids, Elton John Aids Foundation, ViiV Positive Action, AVERT, UNAIDS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Netherlands. The research is led by Aidsfonds as part of the Love Alliance program.
